Jalen Hurts Praised by Rival NFL Coach as Eagles QB Snubbed from Top 10 Rankings in New Poll
Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts was once considered one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, but it appears that he has lost his luster around the league.
In ESPN's Jeremy Fowler's annual list of the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL, Hurts was snubbed from the rankings and listed among the "honorable mentions." Still, an opposing coach praised the 27-year-old as one of the league's best.
"I know it has been up-and-down, but I'm still betting on the Super Bowl credentials, the intangibles and the toughness," an AFC offensive coach said of Hurts.
With Hurts on the outside looking in, the full top 10 list of quarterbacks is as follows:
- Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
- Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
- Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
- Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
- Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
- Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
- Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
- Drake Maye, New England Patriots
- Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
- Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
After leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl title in the 2024 season, Hurts had a strong 2025 campaign, throwing for 3,224 yards, a career-high 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He also added 421 rushing yards and eight more scores on the ground. Despite his impressive stats, Philadelphia failed to defend its Super Bowl title and lost in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
To make matters more concerning, after the Eagles' season had ended, Hurts was the subject of a scathing report by Fowler and Tim McManus that revealed growing frustrations within the organization regarding his demeanor and his approach to the game. Philadelphia traded star receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots last month after his relationship with Hurts deteriorated.
Still, Hurts is remaining optimistic about the Eagles' chances to return to the mountaintop in 2026. Philadelphia is installing a new offense under first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, and Hurts is embracing the change.
"I thought it was a really good spring. Being able to onboard another new system and put everything together, lay the foundation, I'm encouraged by that," Hurts said last month. "I'm encouraged by the work we were able to put in. We have a fun summer ahead of us."
