Yankees SP Cam Schlittler's Status for MLB All-Star Game 2026 Revealed by Aaron Boone
New York Yankees ace Cam Schlittler has joined the growing list of pitchers who will not take part in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, though it is not due to an injury-related issue.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday that Schlittler has decided not to pitch in the Midsummer Classic because he doesn't want to overextend himself on what would normally be his throw day between starts.
Schlittler threw 99 pitches in New York's 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday. He struck out six and allowed two runs, but also tied his season-high with four walks.
On a normal routine, Schlittler would have thrown a bullpen on Tuesday. He could have used the All-Star Game to replace his bullpen session, but that setting might have forced him to exert more effort than he would on a normal throw day.
There is also the long-term outlook for Schlittler this season. His 118.2 innings thrown is already 31.1 more than he had in the big leagues during the entire 2025 campaign between the regular season and playoffs.
Schlittler, who would have been on the short list of candidates to start for the AL, is currently on pace to throw around 190 innings in the regular season. He is arguably the AL Cy Young frontrunner right now with an AL-best 2.05 ERA and 0.94 WHIP.
The All-Star pitching staff for both leagues has already undergone significant changes. Jacob Misiorowski, Paul Skenes, Chase Burns, Shohei Ohtani, Ranger Suárez are among the pitchers who have opted out of participating.
Despite Schlitter's decision not to play, the Yankees will still be represented in Philadelphia on Tuesday with Ben Rice and Cody Bellinger on the AL team.
The 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be held at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
