Barry Bonds' Nephew Peyton Selected by Giants in 3rd Round of 2026 MLB Draft
Another member of the Bonds family could be prowling the San Francisco Giants outfield before too long.
The team selected Rutgers outfielder Peyton Bonds with the 90th overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft:
If this feels familiar, it should. Peyton is the nephew of legendary slugger Barry Bonds.
His dad, Bobby Bonds Jr., also bounced around the minors and played independent ball toward the end of his pro career.
Having one of the greatest hitters in baseball history for an uncle can be a blessing and a curse. The Bonds name certainly opens some doors but casts a big shadow.
Peyton has done well to carve his own path during a college career that started Campbell before his 2025 transfer to the Scarlet Knights.
Injuries limited Bonds to 36 games this season, yet he made his presence felt. He had a .352/.436/.535 slash line and hit six home runs with 29 RBI. He swiped 13 bags as well.
Defense could prove to be Bonds' calling card. MLB.com gave him a 60-grade for fielding, which was the highest among his five individual tools.
Even though the New Jersey native didn't display elite power — 11 homers in 93 games — at Rutgers, his 6'5", 230-pound frame may have the Giants believing there's some untapped potential there.
"He has a really good feel to hit, with excellent in-zone bat-to-ball skills," his MLB.com scouting report read. "There's plenty of bat speed and high exit velocities, but it hasn't translated to power just yet, with some thinking there could be more unlocked with some bat path adjustments at the next level."
If nothing else, Bonds could be a solid hitter and plus defender. And when center field has long been a sore point for San Francisco, the organization would be thrilled if he can stick there in the majors.
