Red Sox Wear Custom T-Shirts Making Fun of Travel Issues in Trending Photo Ahead of Mets Game
The Boston Red Sox made light of the travel issues that delayed their arrival for Friday's game against the New York Mets.
NESN's Jahmai Webster posted a photo of custom shirts some Red Sox players were wearing Saturday, featuring an airplane that read "Show and Go Airlines" and the tagline, "See you at 4:15."
Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the Red Sox were scheduled to face the Mets Friday night at Citi Field in Queens, New York, at 7:15 p.m. ET, but the start time had to be pushed back to 7:51 p.m. because of Boston's late arrival.
The team's plane experienced two mechanical issues, causing the Red Sox to be stuck in Chicago much longer than anticipated. They were supposed to fly to New York on Thursday night, but they did not leave until Friday and didn't arrive until 5:05 p.m. on the day of the game.
Despite the circumstances, the Red Sox pulled off a 6-2 victory over the Mets, giving them their seventh win in a row.
Sonny Gray got the win for Boston after surrendering just five hits and one earned run in six innings, and second baseman Anthony Seigler was the offensive star with a two-run home run, while outfielder Wilyer Abreu added three hits and two RBI as well.
It has been a trying season for the Red Sox, who fired manager Alex Cora in late April, but the team has performed much better under interim manager Chad Tracy, going 34-31 since he took over.
On Saturday, the Red Sox will take on the Mets and look to make it eight wins in a row, and they could potentially surpass the Toronto Blue Jays for sole possession of third place in the American League East with a victory.
