Jalen Brunson's NBA Finals Game 1 Jersey Sells for Over $1M at Auction After Knicks' Title Win
A piece of NBA history sold at auction on Wednesday.
Jalen Brunson's game-worn jersey from Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs sold for just over $1 million at a Sotheby's auction.
The Nike Association Edition jersey was worn by Brunson as the star point guard dropped 30 points in a 105-95 win over Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. The Knicks went on to beat San Antonio in five games, delivering the Knicks their first title in 53 years.
Brunson won Finals MVP after averaging 32.6 points per game during the series.
While $1 million is a high price to pay, it's far from the record for a jersey sold at auction. That record belongs to a Michael Jordan jersey worn during Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals during the Chicago Bulls' "Last Dance."
But as is the case for most historic jerseys, the one sold on Wednesday will only go up in value as time passes. Brunson is already an iconic player but has the chance to continue carving out his legacy among the greats. The more Brunson achieves, the higher in value the jersey will get.
The Brunson jersey wasn't the only bit of Finals memorabilia sold on Wednesday.
Darren Rovell of cllct noted that the net from Game 5 sold for $179,200 at Sotheby's.
Other jerseys from the NBA Finals, from both the Knicks and Spurs, are up for auction Sotheby's this week, as well as memorabilia like court panels.
