Darryn Peterson's 'Scoring Leader' Potential Hyped by NBA Scouts Amid Jazz Summer League Debut
Two games in the Salt Lake City Summer League were enough for some NBA scouts to tout Utah Jazz rookie Darryn Peterson as an elite scorer in the making.
ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported on the latest episode of the Hoop Collective podcast (41:17 mark) he has heard people say Peterson possesses "scoring leader-type of potential." The No. 2 overall pick is also earning praise for his court vision and offensive poise.

The numbers from Peterson's freshman season at Kansas tell the story. He averaged 20.2 points on 43.8 percent shooting, including 38.2 percent from beyond the arc.
That translated immediately to the summer league, where he dropped 53 points and 14 assists in two appearances.
Summer league ultimately isn't the final proving ground, and few have questioned Peterson's raw talent heading into his NBA debut. Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman compared him to four-time All-Star Anthony Edwards.
The biggest critiques around Peterson center around more nebulous concerns. He missed time through multiple injuries, and he didn't perform up to the level a lot of people expected of him. The 6'6" guard scored 30-plus points just once.
The early returns on Peterson are at least encouraging. If he's as good as advertised, the Jazz's ceiling as an organization will look a lot different over the next few years.
