Jonathan Kuminga's Updated Landing Spots as NBA Rumors Reveal New Teams amid Lakers Rumors

Mike ChiariJul 3, 2026

Free-agent forward Jonathan Kuminga is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams after the Atlanta Hawks declined his team option this week.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Hawks still have interest in potentially re-signing Kuminga, plus the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as suitors.

Kuminga, 23, is preparing to enter his sixth NBA season after spending the majority of his career with the Golden State Warriors thus far.

During his third NBA campaign in 2023-24, Kuminga seemed poised to become a star, as he averaged 16.1 points per game on 52.9 percent shooting to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Kuminga failed to take a step forward the following season, though, as he started just 10 of the 46 games he appeared in and averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor.

Last offseason, things came down to the wire for Kuminga as a restricted free agent before the Warriors signed him to a two-year deal worth $46.8 million with a team option for the second season.

It quickly became apparent that Kuminga wasn't a huge part of Golden State's plans, and his production suffered to the tune of 12.1 points per game on 45.4 percent shooting to go along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in just 20 games.

Along with Buddy Hield, Kuminga was traded from Golden State to Atlanta in February, bringing back Kristaps Porziล†ฤฃis in exchange.

Kuminga's play in Atlanta was much the same as it was in Golden State, averaging 12.3 points on 47.6 percent shooting, plus 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

The Hawks, Cavs and Lakers were all playoff teams last season, and Kuminga would be a nice piece off the bench for any of them in 2026-27.

In Cleveland, he would have the opportunity to play under head coach Kenny Atkinson, who spent some time with him as an assistant in Golden State. Meanwhile, the Lakers could use a physically gifted wing like Kuminga in free agency now that LeBron James is poised to sign elsewhere.

The Bucks could provide Kuminga with the best chance to play big, meaningful minutes, though, since there are lineup spots up for grabs after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.

Whatever Kuminga decides, he has a chance to be among the best values in free agency given his age and high ceiling.
