Chris Johnson Brings Back Ice Bucket Challenge Videos for ALS Awareness, Daughter Nominates LeBron
After announcing his ALS diagnosis earlier this week, former NFL running back Chris Johnson brought back the viral Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness of the progressive nervous system disease.
"Man… the love y'all have shown me these last few days really mean more than you know. Me and my family appreciate every prayer, message and every bit of support," Johnson wrote on Instagram. "... I'm asking y'all to help me with something. Let's bring back the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Grab a bucket, challenge 3 people and if you can, donate to help fund ALS research."

Former NFL star RB diagnosed with ALS
Johnson's daughter, Honey Love, was one of the first to partake in the challenge, and she nominated NBA legend LeBron James to join the cause.
In his post, Johnson nominated former NFL star Marshawn Lynch and his former Tennessee Titans teammates Adam "Pacman" Jones and LenDale White. It didn't take long for them to answer the call.
The Ice Bucket Challenge went viral in 2014 as a way to raise ALS awareness. Per ESPN, the ALS Therapy Development Institute announced that the drive helped raise an estimated $135 million in the United States and $220 million worldwide in the fight against the disease.
Johnson announced his ALS diagnosis during an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday.
"There's no history of ALS in my family," the 39-year-old told GMA's Michael Strahan while speaking through an electronic device. "My doctors believe my case is what's called sporadic ALS, which is actually how the vast majority of ALS cases happen. That's one of the reasons this disease can be so shocking. It can happen to someone who never expected it."
Johnson played 10 seasons in the NFL and is one of just nine running backs to produce a 2,000-yard campaign. He was named the 2009 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year after breaking the NFL's single-season record for yards from scrimmage, finishing with 2,509.
