Yankees' Cody Bellinger Says 'It F--king Sucks' to Go Through Slump as Hitter, Team
The New York Yankees have now lost seven straight games after falling 6-2 to the Detroit Tigers in 11 innings on Wednesday at home.
After the game, Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger provided a brutally honest take on his own individual slump and the team's brutal stretch.
"It f--king sucks. It's a s---ty feeling," Bellinger said, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.
Bellinger is 2-for-32 in his last nine games with nine strikeouts. The Yankees haven't scored more than four runs in any of their last 12 games and have averaged 2.5 runs per contest during that span.
Bellinger has amassed 11 home runs and 49 RBI alongside a .254 batting average and .795 OPS this season. He was hitting .280 with an .860 OPS before the slump.
This swoon, of course, isn't on one player alone. The entire team has encountered bad struggles, to the point where they are historical.
Here's a snapshot of how bad things have gotten.
New York, of course, is missing some key players on the injured list, namely three-time MVP and outfielder Aaron Judge, who is dealing with a stress fracture of his first rib on his right side. Judge has not played since May 31.
Still, the remaining Yankees have underperformed. The light at the end of the tunnel is New York holds a 48-38 record, still good enough for the American League's second-best mark.
New York will hope to finally break this losing streak on Friday, when the Minnesota Twins arrived to town for a three-game series.
