Real Madrid Transfer News: Final David De Gea Offer Made, Sergio Ramos Rumours

Rory MarsdenAug 10, 2015

Real Madrid have reportedly tabled a final bid in their attempts to secure the services of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

Rumours of the Spaniard's potential switch to the Bernabeu have been swirling all summer, but United have been digging their heels in over the transfer fee despite De Gea having less than a year left on his contract, per Stuart Mathieson in the Manchester Evening News.

American news network ABC (h/t Jack Wilson in the Daily Star) is now reporting that Real "have submitted a take-it-or-leave-it £21.2 million bid" for the 24-year-old Spain international.

The report stated United are holding out for closer to £25 million.

Real's strong interest in De Gea is unsurprising given that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Los Blancos are in need of a long-term replacement for the recently departed Iker Casillas, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:

However, given De Gea's pedigree, it is also unsurprising that the Red Devils are holding out for as big a transfer fee as they can possibly negotiate.

De Gea's consistently excellent performances last season played a huge part in United finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

Their back-up options are not of the highest calibre despite the recent signing of Sergio Romero, but the Red Devils are reportedly lining up Ajax's Jasper Cillessen in case De Gea departs, per Metro's Sean Kearns.

However, should Real not meet United's asking price, the Old Trafford outfit will be happy to see De Gea stay on for another season.

Despite being left out of the squad for the opening match of the Premier League season against Tottenham on Saturday, that is not set to be the case long term, per the Guardian's Daniel Harris:

There has been stubbornness on both sides during the De Gea transfer saga, with Real refusing to acquiesce to United's request that centre-back Sergio Ramos be included in a swap deal for the goalkeeper, per the Mirror's David McDonnell.

Ramos' future looks finally to be assured at the Bernabeu soon, with the Spaniard set to put pen to paper on a new deal worth up to €10 million (£7.1 million) a year, per Pete Jenson and Ian Herbert of the Independent.

Indeed, Spanish outlet AS (h/t Sport Witness) reports that confidence is high at Madrid that the 29-year-old will sign a new contract:

It will come as a major relief to the Bernabeu hierarchy if and when Ramos finally signs a new deal, as they would have been put under huge pressure had he been allowed to leave so soon after the departure of Casillas.

Whether De Gea will come in before the end of the transfer window remains to be seen, but it is likely to go right down to the wire.
