Jalen Brunson Reacts to Becky Hammon Photo and Nico Harrison 'Fumbling' Luka Duo in New Video
New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson addressed Becky Hammon, his time with the Dallas Mavericks and several other topics during a conversation with Sports Illustrated this week.
Brunson was shown a series of photos on a tablet and asked to comment on them, but he didn't have much to say when shown a picture of Hammon at the 6:57 mark:
Once he caught a glimpse of the head coach of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, Brunson said, "I'm skipping this. I'm skipping her."
While working as an ESPN analyst in 2023, Hammon expressed doubt over the Knicks being able to win a championship with Brunson leading the way, saying, "If your best player is small, you're not winning."
After Brunson led the Knicks to their first championship since 1973 last season, and won NBA Finals MVP in the process, Hammon gave him props, but refused to apologize for her previous take
"Jalen, all he did was prove history wrong," Hammon told reporters. "He proves he's an outlier, so you can put his name next to Steph Curry and Isiah Thomas. I thought he played brilliantly, especially down the stretch.
"I mean, he was that 1A dude. But apologize? I'm never going to apologize for having an opinion. That's what ESPN pays me for."
At the 4:43 mark of the video, Brunson was shown a photo of former Mavs general manager Nico Harrison.
When asked if Harrison "fumbled" him and Luka Dončić, Brunson responded by saying, "Well, they made decisions. And I'll leave it at that. They made their decisions."
Dončić and Brunson led the Mavs to the Western Conference Finals in 2022, but Dallas lost Brunson to the Knicks in free agency during the ensuing offseason, and Harrison later made the shocking decision to trade Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024-25 season.
It wasn't long after that that Harrison was fired, as the Mavs have finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.
The Mavericks' loss was the Knicks' gain, though, as Brunson was the driving force behind their first championship in over 50 years.
