New NBA Trade Rumors on Jrue Holiday, Anthony Davis and Blazers After Ja Morant Deal
After adding another piece to their backcourt mix by acquiring Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies, the Portland Trail Blazers appear to be done making major moves going into the start of free agency.
Per NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Blazers' interest in Anthony Davis as a trade target is "off the table" in the wake of their deal for Morant.
The report also notes that Portland has been "messaging" to teams interested in trading for Jrue Holiday that it plans to keep the two-time All-Star.
Portland sent Jerami Grant and Kris Murray to Memphis in exchange for Morant on Monday.
It was a surprise move for the Blazers given the current construction of their roster with Holiday, Damian Lillard and Scoot Henderson under contract. They did get out of Grant's contract that could pay him $70.6 million over the next two seasons if he picks up his player option for the 2027-28 season.
Adding Morant to the mix would seem to make one of that trio expendable, with Holiday seeming like the prime candidate because of his age and contract that includes one more guaranteed year plus a $37.2 million player option for 2027-28.
Henderson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Lillard is the same age as Holiday (36), but his contract contains a full no-trade clause that makes it seem unlikely he would want to be moved.
Given the defensive limitations for players like Morant, Henderson and Lillard, Holiday will play an important role for the Blazers assuming he does remain on the roster when the 2026-27 season begins.
The Blazers are also trying to improve on a promising 42-40 record from the 2025-26 campaign. They made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the West, losing to the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the first round.
A core with Holiday, Lillard, Morant, Deni Avdija, Donovan Clingan, Shaedon Sharpe has plenty of upside to keep the Blazers in the playoff race in the Western Conference next season.
