New NFL Trade Landing Spots and Packages for Brandon Aiyuk Amid Ongoing 49ers Drama
The first set of NFL training camps are set to open in just under three weeks. Meanwhile, the relationship between wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has yet to be severed despite both sides being ready to move on from one another.
The latest in this unending drama came when Aiyuk told his YouTube channel: "We is not cool. We won't be cool, and I will never be stepping in that building."
The lone exception, at least in Aiyuk's eyes, is if he's traded to or eventually released and signs with the Washington Commanders, which remains his preferred landing spot. The 49ers host the Commanders in Week 6.
Because of Aiyuk's clear intentions to eventually join the Commanders and reunite with his collegiate teammate, Jayden Daniels, other potential suitors will be forced to discuss trade parameters to obtain the 28-year-old.
The sooner he's brought into the fold; the more likely he can be cleared by his next team's medical staff after suffering a significant knee injury in 2024 and then start working his way back onto the field.
Four teams should also be considered in the mix for Aiyuk, because each has a need to add a veteran receiver capable of elevating the offense.
Miami Dolphins

Trade Package: Dolphins trade a 2027 seventh-round draft pick to the 49ers for Aiyuk.
Quite simply, the Miami Dolphins currently feature the league's worst group of wide receivers, at least on paper. The organization hasn't done enough to help its new starting quarterback, Malik Willis. A bold move to upgrade the position and possibly acquire a WR1 on the cheap should be a priority.
Currently, Malik Washington is Miami's top returning wide receiver. He caught 46 passes for 317 yards last season.
The Dolphins did draft a pair of wide receivers—Texas Tech's Caleb Douglas and Louisville's Chris Bell—in this year's third round. Both can be significant contributors during their rookie campaigns. However, Miami would be better served bringing in a veteran presence to boost this particular group.
Plus, Miami should be an appealing landing spot for Aiyuk. As mentioned, he appears to have his heart set on playing for the Washington Commanders. However, a significant tie to the wide receiver's past success can be found on the Dolphins' coaching staff.
Bobby Slowik is the team's offensive coordinator. He served as the 49ers' passing game coordinator in 2022 when Aiyuk posted his first 1,000-yard campaign and was named a second-team All-Pro. Slowik understands how to build a passing game around Aiyuk's skill set, which should greatly help in Willis' maturation as a full-time NFL starter.
The Dolphins are building toward the future, and this season should be viewed as a transition phase. On his current deal, Aiyuk is under team control through the 2028 season, giving Miami a chance to build a stronger supporting cast around Willis or another quarterback drafted next April.
Kansas City Chiefs

Trade Package: Chiefs trade a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to the 49ers for a seventh-round selection and Aiyuk.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs simply cannot operate in the same manner as they did during the 2025 campaign. Changes are still necessary, with wide receiver serving as a significant question mark.
Surprisingly, the Chiefs did little to address wide receiver this offseason despite the position being a glaring need. Kansas City drafted Cyrus Allen in this year's fifth round, and the rookie certainly has the talent and skill set to exceed expectations.
At the same time, the Chiefs should do more to improve the talent level on the outside considering Rashee Rice's unreliability, Xavier Worthy's continued development and Tyquan Thornton's lack of production.
A healthy Aiyuk brings a completely different skill set to take pressure off of Mahomes and aging tight end Travis Kelce. This point is particularly important for the 30-year-old signal-caller since he's coming off a torn ACL and LCL.
Furthermore, the Chiefs placed too much on their quarterback's shoulders last season. As a result, Mahomes experienced his worst season as a starter and old, bad habits reappeared.
Kansas City is the franchise most willing to take a chance on talent even if major concerns are present. In this case, the organization can invest in a wide receiver who should be motivated by the fact it operates at a Super Bowl standard, while playing alongside the greatest quarterback of his generation.
In a twist, the Chiefs send San Francisco's original sixth-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft in exchange for Kansas City's seventh-round selection since those two selection were used to complete last year's Skyy Moore deal.
Houston Texans

Trade Package: Texans trade a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to the 49ers for a seventh-round selection and Aiyuk.
Demeco Ryans has quickly established himself as one of the NFL's best head coaches, with a 32-19 record and three playoff appearances in his first three seasons with the Houston Texans.
However, the Texans lost in the divisional round each time. This squad needs an extra boost to be included among the AFC's elite.
Ryans' presence is important regarding this projected deal, because he was on the San Francisco 49ers' staff during Aiyuk's first three seasons. He knows the individual, his character and what he brings to an offense.
From a personnel standpoint, the Texans already feature two towering targets on the outside in Nico Collins and Jayden Higgins. The slot is a little different, because Tank Dell has dealt with significant injuries over the last two seasons. Jaylin Noel can claim that spot during his second year.
Though the Texans should be looking to add as much talent as possible, particularly since the team finds itself in an evaluation year for quarterback C.J. Stroud, who is looking to sign a contract extension.
Aiyuk can be deployed in a variety of ways to make the unit more dangerous. While Houston may have issues down the road with his contract, the team is trying to win now and make a push toward the Super Bowl. The defense already performs at that level. Whereas, the offense continues to lag.
A committed Aiyuk makes this group and Stroud better—which is the primary goal.
Indianapolis Colts

Trade Package: Colts trade quarterback Anthony Richardson to 49ers for Aiyuk.
The Indianapolis Colts are entering a make-or-break season for the current regime. This move may be viewed as an act of desperation, particularly when general manager Chris Ballard tends to prioritize character and doesn't necessarily want to bring in a player who experienced such a public falling out with his previous team.
Even so, the Colts should seriously consider the possibility since the team hasn't adequately replaced Michael Pittman Jr. after trading him to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Furthermore, Alec Pierce, who signed a $114 million contract extension this offseason to become Indianapolis' new WR1, may not be ready for the Week 1 after requiring offseason ankle surgery.
Maybe the Colts are more interested in bringing in a free agent like Keenan Allen, who has a previous working relationship with head coach Shane Steichen. That possibility is built on the assumption that Allen wants to sign with Indianapolis.
Otherwise, the Colts can achieve two offseason goals with one move.
By sending quarterback Anthony Richardson to the Niners, they get something back for the fourth overall pick from the 2023 NFL draft, while adding a receiver with the potential to make the offense more potent. For San Francisco, Richardson can be Kyle Shanahan's developmental project behind Brock Purdy since Mac Jones is set to enter free agency after the 2026 campaign.
Interestingly, the Colts' top four wide receivers—Pierce, Josh Downs, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and the added Aiyuk—would cost less combined than Pittman's previous salary-cap hit had he stayed in Indianapolis.
