Biggest Winners, Losers of 2026 MLB All-Star Game Phase 1 Voting Results

Joel ReuterJun 25, 2026

The 2026 MLB All-Star Game is just a few short weeks away, with Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia set to play host to the annual exhibition of baseball's brightest stars.

Phase 1 of the fan voting concluded on Thursday, with Ernie Clement (3,232,932 votes) and Shohei Ohtani (3,341,257 votes) earning automatic spots in their respective starting lineups as the leading vote-getters in their leagues.

The remaining positions are now narrowed to two candidates (six for outfielders) for Phase 2 of the voting, and the results of that round of balloting will determine the starting lineups.

Phase 2 voting begins at noon ET on Monday, June 29 and closes at noon ET on Thursday, July 2. Starting lineups will be announced on Saturday, July 4, at 7:30 PM ET on Fox.

For now, let's dig into the Phase 1 voting results and highlight some of the biggest winners and losers.

3 Quick-Hit Winners

2 of 9
MLB: JUN 18 Cardinals at Royals

Bobby Witt Jr., Royals: It's hard to believe he has not started an All-Star Game yet in his career, given his standing as one of the game's true superstars, but he was a reserve behind Jacob Wilson a year ago. If Phase 1 voting trends hold, he'll be the AL starter.

Shea Langeliers, Athletics: Considering they don't really have a true hometown right now, it's impressive to see any Athletics player move on to Phase 2 of the voting. With a 125 OPS+, 19 home runs and 2.3 WAR in 72 games, he is plenty deserving.

Ezequiel Durán, Rangers: Ernie Clement being the AL's leading vote-getter means there won't be a Phase 2 for AL second basemen, but shoutout to Durán for finishing a distant second. The 27-year-old is having a quietly excellent year, hitting .266/.323/.422 for a 117 OPS+ while starting at least once at six different positions.

Loser: Alejandro Kirk over Dillon Dingler

3 of 9
MLB: JUN 09 Twins at Tigers

AL Catcher Voting

1. Shea Langeliers, Athletics: 2,077,756
2. Alejandro Kirk, Blue Jays: 1,488,788
3. Dillon Dingler, Tigers: 924,766
4. Adley Rutschman, Orioles: 572,287
5. Ryan Jeffers, Twins: 527,412

FanGraphs has all-encompassing Offensive and Defensive value metrics that measure a player's overall contributions on each side of the ball.

Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler is one of only four players with double digits in both metrics. The 27-year-old is hitting .267/.333/.535 for a 136 OPS+ with 18 home runs and 56 RBI, and after winning 2025 AL Gold Glove honors behind the plate, he has again graded out as an elite defender.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Kirk has played a grand total of 13 games this season, batting .191 with a 49 OPS+ and negative-0.1 WAR, yet he has nearly doubled Dingler's voting support.

Winner: Mike Trout's Resurgence

4 of 9
Los Angeles Angels v Arizona Diamondbacks

AL Outfield Voting

1. Aaron Judge, Yankees: 2,567,404
2. Mike Trout, Angels: 2,511,587
3. Byron Buxton, Twins: 1,789,018
4. Cody Bellinger, Yankees: 1,614,585
5. Daulton Varsho, Blue Jays: 1,336,544
6. Jesús Sánchez, Blue Jays: 1,260,762

Hot take: Baseball is more fun when Mike Trout is good.

Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Angels star is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but prior to landing on the injured list, he posted a 144 OPS+, 17 home runs, and 2.8 WAR in 74 games.

It's hard to believe a player who was so recently a prominent figure in baseball's GOAT conversation has not started an All-Star Game since 2019, but a series of nagging injuries has knocked him off his historic trajectory.

A Philadelphia sports fan growing up less than 50 miles from Citizens Bank Park in Millville, New Jersey, it's fitting that his potential return to the Midsummer Classic starting lineup would come in Philadelphia.

Loser: Pete Crow-Armstrong Snubbed as MLB's WAR Leader

5 of 9
Chicago Cubs v New York Mets - Game Two

NL Outfield Voting

1. Andy Pages, Dodgers: 2,158,664
2. Brandon Marsh, Phillies: 2,015,932
3. Ronald Acuña Jr., Braves: 1,723,945
4. Teoscar Hernández, Dodgers: 1,569,932
5. Juan Soto, Mets: 1,538,562
6. Michael Harris II, Braves: 1,479,135
...
10. Pete Crow-Armstrong, Cubs: 1,063,065

In defense of the voters, Pete Crow-Armstrong had not yet started the heater he has been riding for weeks now when All-Star Game voting opened on June 3, but he now stands as the most glaring omission from the list of Phase 2 finalists.

Pre-June 3: 254 PA, .242/.328/.390, 17 XBH (7 HR)
Post-June 3: 91 PA, .405/.473/.886, 16 XBH (10 HR)

That offensive surge, coupled with elite defense in center field, has him at 4.8 WAR through 80 games, according to FanGraphs. That puts him ahead of Bobby Witt Jr. (4.4), Jacob Misiorowski (4.2) and Yordan Alvarez (3.8) and behind only the combined two-way efforts of Shohei Ohtani (5.8) among all players.

Winner: Brandon Marsh On Track to Start in Home Stadium

6 of 9
MLB: JUN 17 Marlins at Phillies

NL Outfield Voting

1. Andy Pages, Dodgers: 2,158,664
2. Brandon Marsh, Phillies: 2,015,932
3. Ronald Acuña Jr., Braves: 1,723,945
4. Teoscar Hernández, Dodgers: 1,569,932
5. Juan Soto, Mets: 1,538,562
6. Michael Harris II, Braves: 1,479,135

Asked to identify the Philadelphia Phillies player most likely to start the 2026 All-Star Game in front of the home fans at the start of the season, guys like Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper and Trea Turner would have been popular picks.

Instead, it's Brandon Marsh who is on track to be the only Phillies player in the NL's starting lineup, and deservedly so. To his credit, Schwarber is having a terrific season, he's just buried behind Shohei Ohtani on the NL ballot.

The 28-year-old Marsh is enjoying the best season of his career, hitting .321/.353/.507 for a 131 OPS+ with 14 doubles, 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 2.0 WAR in 75 games. He sits third in the NL batting title race, and his 88 hits are sixth-most in the majors.

Loser: No Love for the Rookies

7 of 9
Chicago White Sox v Detroit Tigers
Kevin McGonigle

It used to be rare for a rookie to be part of the starting lineup at the All-Star Game, as it had happened just 22 times over the first 85 years of the Midsummer Classic's history.

In the last decade, that number has grown more rapidly, with Aaron Judge (2017), Josh Jung (2023), Corbin Carroll (2023), Paul Skenes (2024) and Jacob Wilson (2025) all joining the club.

In what is shaping up to be one of the best rookie classes in recent memory, Japanese import Kazuma Okamoto is the only first-year player who has moved on to Phase 2 of the voting.

Detroit Tigers shortstop Kevin McGonigle is hitting .283/.388/.428 for a 126 OPS+ and ranks seventh in the majors with 3.3 WAR, making him one of the biggest snubs in the league.

JJ Wetherholt (120 OPS+, 3.3 WAR), Munetaka Murakami (20 HR, 2.0 WAR) and Travis Bazzana (125 OPS+, 1.4 WAR) are among the other notable rookie snubs, and that group will now rely on reserve roles to earn their spot in Philadelphia.

Winner: Dodgers and Braves Dominance Continues

8 of 9
San Francisco Giants v Atlanta Braves
Drake Baldwin

The Atlanta Braves or Los Angeles Dodgers have occupied the No. 1 spot in our MLB power rankings every week since Opening Day, and they stand as the clear top-tier of World Series contenders entering July.

It's only fitting then that they would be prominently featured in the NL voting picture.

Of the 16 players moving on to Phase 2 of the voting on the National League ballot, 12 come from those two rosters, and that's not counting Shohei Ohtani, who secured his spot as the starting DH as the NL's top vote-getter through Phase 1.

It's going to create quite a roster crunch to fulfill the one player from each team requirement if those two teams end up dominating the NL's starting lineup, and that's without considering the pitching side of things, where Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) and Chris Sale (ATL) should both be locks.

At the same time, it's hard to argue they don't deserve a cavalcade of All-Stars as baseball's premier contenders at the season's midway point.

Biggest Winner: Baseball in Canada

9 of 9
Miami Marlins v. Toronto Blue Jays
Ernie Clement

If ever there was a pitch for Montreal or another Canadian city to be the home of baseball's next expansion team, the overwhelming support for Toronto Blue Jays players in Phase 1 voting is compelling.

It doesn't hurt that the Blue Jays received significant national exposure during their run to the World Series last season, but it was still surprising to see just how prominent they were across all positions in Phase 1 voting.

Here's who is moving on to Phase 2 from the Toronto roster:

C Alejandro Kirk (2nd in Phase 1 voting)
1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1st in Phase 1 voting)
2B Ernie Clement (1st in Phase 1 voting—AL leading vote-getter)
3B Kazuma Okamoto (1st in Phase 1 voting)
SS Andrés Giménez (2nd in Phase 1 voting)
OF Daulton Varsho (5th in Phase 1 voting)
OF Jesús Sánchez (6th in Phase 1 voting)
DH George Springer (2nd in Phase 1 voting)

There was perhaps no bigger surprise during Phase 1 than Ernie Clement securing the most votes of any American League player, and while a thin crop of AL second basemen helped his cause, his playoff heroics last year also no doubt played a role.

Regardless of how many Blue Jays actually secure a starting spot, the voting results were a good indication of the state of baseball in Canada.
