Cameron Boozer, Dad Carlos React to Duke Star Going No. 3 to Grizzlies in 2026 NBA Draft
Cameron Boozer's lifelong dream came true on Tuesday as the Duke star was drafted third overall to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Boozer, the son of NBA icon Carlos Boozer, called getting drafted alongside his family "our moment."
"I don't even know how to describe it honestly, man," he said. "...It's my moment, but it's our moment as a family."
The Boozer family grew up around basketball, with Carlos playing 13 years in the league.
"I probably had a basketball in their crib, all three of my sons," Carlos said, per NBA.com's Krysten Peek. "They got serious about basketball around four or five years old. Then they got good, like really good where I knew they had something, around middle school.
"I think Cam was No. 1 in the country in seventh grade. The lightbulb started going off for them in middle school and then obviously once they hit high school, they were beating everyone and winning at the highest level."
Boozer had a tremendous lone season at Duke, averaging 22.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 55.6 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from deep. He was named the National Player of the Year and was a consensus All-American.
The goal now for Boozer is to continue playing at a high level in the NBA while helping the Grizzlies get back on track after a few down years.
He'll have a solid young core around him with players like Zach Edey, Jaylen Wells and Cedric Coward. Star point guard Ja Morant's future with the team is still uncertain, so the Grizzlies' roster could look a bit different by the time the season starts.
