New Anthony Edwards Trade Rumors Reveal Star's Stance on Wolves After Giannis Deal
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards isn't concerned with rumors surrounding his long-term future as a member of the organization, according to Chris Hine of the Minnesota Star Tribune.
"Multiple sources close to Edwards dismissed the chatter as just that," Hine reported Tuesday. "One said there was no truth to any of it. Another reiterated Edwards and his team love Minnesota, and they think being here, in this location with this franchise, is the 'ideal' situation."
ESPN's Tim MacMahon previously said that "NBA vultures are swirling" around Edwards as the next superstar to be traded after the Miami Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster swap with the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst also said Edwards has been frustrated by the way opposing defenses have double-teamed him since Minnesota traded star center Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in 2024.
Julius Randle, who was acquired by the Timberwolves in the swap involving Towns, was sent to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a three-team deal that also included the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
As for Edwards, he's spent all six years of his career in Minnesota after he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.
He's developed into one of the league's top two-way guards throughout his tenure with the Timberwolves, earning All-Star nods in each of the past four seasons.
During Edwards' 2025-26 campaign, he averaged a career-high 28.8 points to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He shot 48.9 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from three-point territory.
While the Timberwolves' second-round loss to the San Antonio Spurs represented their earliest playoff exit since 2023, it's worth noting that Edwards played through a knee injury while starting shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo didn't suit up in the series due to a torn Achilles.
Although opposing front offices may be keeping an eye on Edwards, he doesn't seem to be open to a change of scenery anytime soon.
