New NBA Draft Rumors Update Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer's Chances of Being Picked by Jazz at No. 2
With many, including B/R's Jonathan Wasserman, expecting the Washington Wizards to select BYU star AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 pick, the real debate may be who goes No. 2 to the Utah Jazz between Kansas' Darryn Peterson and Duke's Cameron Boozer.
And there seems to be mixed feelings about who will hear their name called.
Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports reported the league sources he spoke to "expect Peterson to be the second pick" since he has "the highest upside on the board" as a "buttery smooth scorer with a blend of fluid body control and positional size that gives him the ingredients to become an elite NBA player."
However, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Boozer remains "under real consideration to be taken with Utah's selection at No. 2."
There is a connection in place between the Jazz and Boozer, as his father, Carlos, played for the organization for six seasons and remains with the organization in a front office role.
Yet the team will surely want to take the player who fits the best on the court, and Wasserman believes that will be Peterson. He called the wing scorer "a cleaner fit after Utah acquired Jaren Jackson Jr."
Peterson could also pair with Keyonte George for the foreseeable future.
"Though Peterson described himself as a point guard at the NBA Combine, league sources believe Utah views the Ohio native as a potential backcourt partner for Keyonte George, sharing playmaking duties," Ben Anderson of KSL Sports previously reported.
While there was some concern about Peterson missing time during his one collegiate season at Kansas, the talent may ultimately be impossible to ignore.
If that is the case, don't be surprised if the Jazz end up taking the Kansas star.
