New Tyler Herro Trade Rumors Leak After Giannis-Heat Deal amid Star's Reaction to Joining Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks may not be done dealing in the wake of their blockbuster trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.
Per The Athletic's Sam Amick and Eric Nehm, it is "unclear" if Tyler Herro will remain with the Bucks because the team will "listen to offers" for him even though they have some interest in rebuilding with him on the roster.
NBA insider Chris Haynes reported in the wake of the Bucks-Heat trade agreement that Herro is "thrilled" about getting a fresh start and the opportunity to play for his hometown team.
There have been rumors about Herro potentially being redirected even before the deal between Milwaukee and Miami came together.
When there was speculation about the Bucks not being enamored with the Heat's offer, the Detroit Pistons were talked about as a potential third team that could be included to help facilitate the trade.
Herro would have wound up in Detroit in that scenario. Even though the three-team option didn't come into play yet, the deal won't be made official until July 6 when the new league year begins, so it's possible it could be expanded. The Pistons could also pursue the 26-year-old in a separate deal.
NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer reported on Tuesday the Pistons have "legitimate interest" in Herro and are talking with the Bucks.
It's unclear what the Pistons might have to give up if they were to acquire Herro. One thing that became apparent throughout the postseason is Detroit desperately needs more shooting around Cade Cunningham.
Cunningham and Duncan Robinson were the only Pistons players who made at least 10 threes in their seven-game series against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Herro is entering the final year of his current deal with a $33 million expiring salary in 2026-27 that could complicate his value. Any interested teams would likely require some assurance he would extend with them before a trade would get done with the Bucks.
It also wouldn't be a surprise if the Bucks just wanted to extend Herro, who is from Milwaukee. He has been a good player for his entire NBA career, including winning Sixth Man of the Year in 2021-22 and making the All-Star team during the 2024-25 season.
Even though the biggest piece of business for the Bucks is done now that they have an agreement in place to trade Antetokounmpo, they still have work to do in figuring out the long-term direction for this roster going forward.
If a team like the Pistons wants to come in with a strong offer for Herro, the Bucks would be wise to at least consider it as they put some of the pieces of the puzzle back together after years of trading away assets while trying to pursue a championship with Antetokounmpo.
