Tyler Herro's Reaction to Bucks Trade in Giannis-Heat Deal Revealed in New NBA Rumors
After being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks from the Miami Heat as part of the blockbuster deal for two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, star guard Tyler Herro is reportedly looking forward to playing for his new franchise.
NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that Herro, who is a Milwaukee native, is "thrilled about a fresh start and playing for his hometown team." Haynes added that the 26-year-old "always envisioned returning home at some point during his NBA career."
Herro starred for Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin, and produced over 2,000 points in his high school career. He ended his senior season with averages of 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.3 steals. He was originally committed to play college basketball at Wisconsin before he flipped his commitment to play for Kentucky under legendary head coach John Calipari.

Buzz: 2 Teams Get Giannis Commitment
After a solid freshman year with the Wildcats, Herro entered the 2019 NBA draft and was selected 13th overall by the Heat. He eventually blossomed into a productive player, earning Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2022 and his first All-Star selection in 2025.
Now, Herro will get to bring his talents home, as he will take over as the top option for a Bucks team that is coming off a disappointing 32-50 finish to the 2025-26 campaign. Milwaukee also acquired center Kel'el Ware, swingman Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, a pick swap and a second-round pick in exchange for Antetokounmpo and veteran forward Bobby Portis.
Injuries limited Herro to just 33 games this past season, so he will undoubtedly be motivated to bounce back in a big way while playing for his hometown team. It won't be easy to replace Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks should be pleased to have a star player who is excited to play in Milwaukee.
