New NBA Mock Draft 2026 Drops amid
Big boards among draft experts largely have BYU forward AJ Dybantsa at No. 1 (e.g. Yahoo Sports, NBADraft.net), although Duke forward Cameron Boozer is a candidate there as well (The Ringer and Tankathon notably placed him atop their lists).
Peterson is as well. Here's what Woo had to say about both Peterson and Dybantsa in the "verdict" sections of his big board writeups.
Regarding Peterson:
"After entering the fall projected at No. 1, Peterson struggled to stay healthy and played through a strange season after a battle with cramping. However, NBA teams haven't appeared concerned with his long-term health. His best moments, while further between than he and Kansas hoped, underscored why NBA teams still view him as a future star who executives liken stylistically to Devin Booker. Peterson can be one of the best guards in the league, and after gaining a better understanding of the context, he reclaims the top spot on my board.
On Dybantsa:
"Viewed as a potential No. 1 pick since his freshman year of high school, Dybantsa managed to exceed expectations at BYU, leading D-I in scoring while shooting 51% and improving as the season went along. He reminded NBA teams of just how special his offensive tool kit is, with his trajectory comparing favorably to star wings including Kawhi Leonard and Jaylen Brown. He looks the part as a franchise player, but he will have to continue expanding his game on both ends to get there."
Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report, in comparison, has Boozer first, Peterson second and Dybantsa third.
"Slotting Boozer No. 1 means buying into his production and winning across all settings, from 15 years old straight through to Duke," Wasserman wrote in part.
"The impact of his frontcourt shooting, passing IQ, physicality, decision-making and poise should far outweigh the occasional issues that stem from athletic limitations."
We'll see soon enough where all the elite prospects go on Tuesday, when the NBA draft begins at 8 p.m. ET from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
