Warriors Insider Says It's 'So Obvious' This NBA Draft Prospect Fits with Steph Curry, GSW Roster

Julia StumbaughJun 17, 2026

At least one person close to Golden State Warriors feels there is an "obvious" answer as to which top 2026 NBA draft prospect is the best fit to play alongside Stephen Curry next season, ESPN's Anthony Slater reported Wednesday.

According to Slater, a team source said about Michigan wing Yaxel Lendeborg: "The fit is so obvious."

Slater noted the fact Lendeborg turns 24 in September could potentially impact his draft stock in the Bay Area.

"Lendeborg's age, team sources said, doesn't disqualify him. He's a real option at the 11th spot," Slater reported. "But it will be part of the calculus when the Warriors are on the clock."

Lendeborg told reporters after a workout with the Warriors last week he feels his skillset "fits perfectly" with the Warriors.

"They do a lot of off-ball moving sets, a lot of action to get Steph open," Lendeborg said last week. "Playing off his gravity will make it a lot easier for me to make reads, and for the other guys to get open as well. So, I think it will be perfect."

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman predicted in his latest mock draft the Warriors will use the No. 11 pick to draft 19-year-old NBL forward Karim Lopez.

Wasserman also projected that Lendeborg would still be on the board at that point before going at No. 14 to the Charlotte Hornets.

"There have been rumors about Yaxel Lendeborg not finishing workouts due to either conditioning or the leg injury suffered during the season," Wasserman reported. "Still, there is enough tape of his versatility and gradual improvement as a shooter and defender.

"It's difficult to envision upside with a 24-year-old rookie, but Lendeborg figures to be attractive to teams looking for immediate contributors."

The Warriors are undoubtedly looking for players who can slot immediately into the lineup amid a recent report from Slater that Draymond Green plans to pick up his player option and return for the 2026-27 season.

Whether the Warriors see Lendeborg as a player who can immediately impact the team's hopes of another playoff run with Green, Curry and head coach Steve Kerr will influence whether general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. ultimately targets him when the draft starts next Tuesday in New York.
