Bo Nix Gives Injury Update, Broncos QB Reveals 2nd Surgery on Ankle and Talks Return Timeline
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix revealed on Wednesday that he underwent a second surgery on his ankle in April due to "a little bit of an issue with bone spurs."
"It was just aggravating me for too long," Nix said, via Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post. "So what we did was, since I was a little bit ahead (in rehabbing), we thought it was best to go ahead and decompress it a little bit and still have plenty of time to get back for the summer to prepare for the season."
While Nix believes he could have played through the 2026 season with the bone spurs, he expected to have the surgery either after the season or at some point down the road.

Nix said Tuesday that he feels "good" and is ahead of schedule after having two surgeries, adding that the second surgery he had was for bone spurs.
"[I] felt pretty good, was still having a little bit of an issue with bone spurs,'' Nix told reporters. "What we did was — even though I probably could've gone again and [played] the whole season again — it was just aggravating me for too long. So, what we did was, since I was a little bit ahead, thought it best to go ahead and decompress it a little bit. Then [I] still had plenty of time to get back for the summer and to prepare for the season.''
Nix was limited in mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, but head coach Sean Payton is confident he'll be ready for training camp at the end of the summer.
"He's doing well, he's doing really well,'' Payton said. "He'll clearly be ready in time for training camp ... it's good to have him out here in uniform.''
Nix said that he feels he could've been a full participant in minicamp practice if the medical and coaching staff had let him.
In his second NFL season, Nix threw for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, adding 356 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. He led the Broncos to the top seed in the AFC and the conference championship game, though he was unable to suit up against the New England Patriots.
