New NFL Rumors Reveal Browns' Brendan Sorsby Stance Ahead of 2026 Supplemental Draft
Even though the Cleveland Browns have a need at quarterback, it doesn't seem like they will be in the mix for Brendan Sorsby as he looks to enter the NFL supplemental draft.
Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are considered "unlikely to bid" on Sorsby in the supplemental draft.
Appearing on Tuesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Adam Schefter didn't think a team would use a first-round pick on Sorsby but "anything is possible" after that.

Sorsby had been fighting a legal battle with the NCAA over his eligibility for wagering on college sports, including betting on Indiana games when he played for the Hoosiers.
Stephen Hawkins of the Associated Press reported on June 6 that a federal judge granted Sorsby a temporary injunction that cleared the way for him to resume playing for Texas Tech in the fall.
Despite the judge's ruling, the ongoing situation between Sorsby, the NCAA and Big 12 conference led to the star quarterback entering the supplemental draft.
The NFL still has to approve Sorsby's application for the draft. There hasn't been a supplemental draft held since 2023.
This immediately adds significant intrigue to the supplemental draft. B/R's NFL scouting department didn't have Sorsby in its very-early 2027 first-round mock draft released on June 5.
Per ESPN's Matt Miller, many NFL scouts believe Sorsby would have been a high first-round pick in 2026 if he had declared.
Miller noted Sorsby was the No. 3 quarterback on his 2027 big board, behind Arch Manning and Dante Moore.
In the same report for ESPN, Jeremy Fowler wrote that multiple executives feel Sorsby is worth a second-round pick in the supplemental draft.
It would seem unlikely any team will use a first-round selection on Sorsby in the supplemental draft because they would forfeit their pick in the same round of the primary draft next spring.
The Browns could theoretically afford to do that after acquiring an extra 2027 first-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams as part of the Myles Garrett trade, but they would forfeit their own selection that projects to be very high at this point.
No player has been selected in the supplemental draft since 2019 when Jalen Thompson was taken in the fifth round by the Arizona Cardinals.
The Browns have only made two picks in the history of the supplemental draft. They took Bernie Kosar in the first round in 1985 and Josh Gordon in the second round in 2012.
Gordon is the only player since 2003 who has been taken in the first two rounds of the supplemental draft. Terrelle Pryor is the last quarterback selected in the supplemental draft when he was taken by the Oakland Raiders in 2012.
The NFL determines the supplemental draft order using three different tiers. The first group is teams that finished last season with six or fewer wins, then the remaining non-playoff teams and the 14 playoff teams in the final tier.
If two teams from the same tier put in a bid for the same player, the one picking first in the order receives the player.
Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards, ran for 580 yards and accounted for 36 touchdowns in 12 games at Cincinnati last season. He announced in January his intention to transfer to Texas Tech.
