Luis Lara, Brewers Reportedly Agree to $31M Contract Before Prospect's MLB Debut
Luis Lara has become the second Milwaukee Brewers prospect to receive a long-term contract extension prior to his MLB debut this season.
Per ESPN's Jeff Passan, Lara and the Brewers have agreed to terms on a seven-year, $31 million deal amid his breakout season in Triple-A.
Milwaukee previously signed Cooper Pratt to an eight-year, $50.8 million deal on March 30. The 21-year-old has yet to make his big-league debut.

Passan noted Lara will remain in Triple-A "for the time being."
Passan noted Lara's deal includes three team options that could push the total value up to $79 million.
The Brewers signed two of three pre-MLB debut deals given out this season. The Seattle Mariners gave out the other one with their eight-year, $95 million deal to Colt Emerson that also included a full no-trade clause.
Emerson is the only player from this group that has since been called up. He was promoted to the Mariners on May 17.
Pratt has taken moderate steps forward so far this season in Triple-A with a .248/.360/.391 slash line.
Playing on the same Nashville Sounds team, Lara has been a standout performer. He's hitting .338/.447/.500 with seven homers and 18 stolen bases in 56 games. His seven long balls are already a career-high and only three away from matching his total from the previous four seasons combined.
The Brewers originally signed Lara as an international free agent in June 2022. MLB.com ranked him as the team's fifth-best prospect and No. 91 overall prospect entering this season.
Lara's calling card is his defense in center field that earned him a Minor League Gold Glove Award in 2025.
If Lara continues to display improved hitting and more power as has been the case so far this season, his stock will continue to soar and this extension will look like a bargain for the Brewers.
Milwaukee now has its core of Lara, Pratt, Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang and Jacob Misirowski under team control through at least 2029. That doesn't even include other top prospects like Jesús Made, Luis Peña and Jett Williams, all of whom could debut in the big leagues by 2027.
