Wemby Admits He Was 'Bad' in Game 1 Loss to Knicks, Spurs Star 'Not Worried' About NBA Finals
San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama's NBA Finals debut featured mixed results for the superstar en route to a 105-95 home loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1 on Wednesday evening.
On one end, Wembanyama posted 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. On the other end, the Frenchman shot just 6-of-21 and committed six turnovers.
Ultimately, the big man wasn't thrilled with his performance.

Wemby: Lack of Experience is Strength
The Spurs were up by as many as 14 points (65-51) in the third quarter and held a 95-94 lead with under two minutes remaining, but New York ended the game on an 11-0 run.
It's a gut-punch loss for San Antonio, but it's also just one game in a best-of-seven series. Wembanyama, for his part, isn't worried.
Wembanyama's superstar counterpart, Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson, didn't shoot well either (12-of-31, 2-of-9 from three) on this day. However, he also scored 13 fourth quarter points, including the eventual game-winning three to put New York up 97-95 and another clutch jumper later on for a 101-95 edge.
Wembanyama gave Brunson much respect after the game, calling him "elite" while noting that the Spurs still have their chances in this series.
This was Wembanyama's first-ever NBA Finals, which was the case for the majority of the players on the court. Wembanyama spoke about this experience and made clear that he wasn't nervous by any means in his first championship matchup.
On the bright side, the Spurs have made comebacks in these playoffs. They lost Game 1 of the second round against the Minnesota Timberwolves but fought back and won in six. They were down two games to one and three games to two to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals but came back to win in seven.
The Spurs will look to even the series at a game apiece on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
