Latest Giannis Trade Rumors on Surprise Landing Spot Possibility amid Heat, Celtics Buzz
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo's reported preference for the Eastern Conference could potentially get in the way of a reunion with Damian Lillard.
The Athletic's Sam Amick and Eric Nehm reported Wednesday the Portland Trail Blazers being a landing spot for the Bucks star is "unlikely given Antetokounmpo's preference to play in the East."
NBA insider Marc Stein reported Monday the Trail Blazers, along with the Miami Heat, were "already in pursuit" of a potential trade for Antetokounmpo.

Giannis Hints at Bucks Future

SGA Has Say in OKC's Moves
Stein and Jake Fischer had tied the Trail Blazers to an interest in Antetokounmpo back in January, when the Bucks were reportedly listening to offers ahead of the February trade deadline.
Stein and Fischer noted at the time, however, it was an "extreme long shot" that Antetokounmpo would sign an extension with the Blazers.
Fischer then reported last month the Blazers were looking to build another offer around Jerami Grant, but noted again the franchise could have difficulty getting Antetokounmpo to sign a new contract in Portland.
Antetokounmpo is only signed through the 2026-27 season before he gets to decide on a player option for 2027-28. Any team giving up a haul to the Bucks in order to acquire him might want to have the framework of a new contract in place before making a deal.
After making a surprise run to the playoffs this spring, the Blazers are looking to stay in the postseason picture as Lillard prepares to return from the ruptured Achilles tendon that sidelined him for the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign.
Should Antetokounmpo show more willingness to sign an extension with an East team like the Heat, however, the Blazers might have to pivot toward another offseason trade in order to find another star to join Lillard for a push to the 2027 playoffs.
