Spurs Send Message to Fans About Reselling NBA Finals Tickets Through Unverified Channels
The San Antonio Spurs are taking steps to ensure that as few tickets as possible for this week's NBA Finals get into the hands of New York Knicks fans.
One Spurs fan posted on Instagram an email reportedly from the team, which revoked someone's season ticket membership going forward after they resold Finals tickets on unauthorized reselling sites.
"We're focused on getting authentic tickets into the hands of our fans and strongly encourage fans to only buy from verified marketplaces," the team said in a statement to Zach Powell of The Athletic. "Our resale guidelines have been communicated to our members throughout the season and in conjunction with Playoffs and Finals going on sale."
Knicks fans have been roundly applauding themselves for spending astronomical amounts of money to invade away arenas during the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers and Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Spurs are trying to limit that happening during the NBA Finals.
But attempts are being made nonetheless. Powell noted that ticket prices for the Finals are "soaring" and "as of Tuesday, the cheapest ticket is $793.73 before fees in the balcony level in the 200s section. One of the best seats is on the floor in the Ledger Courtside Club and is marked $47,600 before fees."
Some of the frenzy, of course, stems from the fact that the Knicks haven't won an NBA title since the 1972-73 season. The Spurs, meanwhile, have won five titles since the 1998-99 campaign.
The other factor is that ticket prices for Games 3 and 4 at Madison Square Garden are obscene:
Either way, it should be a fun series. The Knicks have been red hot during the postseason, with a balanced starting 5 led by Jalen Brunson. The Spurs feature the best player in the series by a wide margin in Victor Wembanyama and a host of athletic two-way guards and wings.
The stage is set for a fantastic NBA Finals.
