Latest NBA Rumors on Thunder amid SGA's Comments After Playoff Loss to Spurs
The Oklahoma City Thunder have some decisions to make this offseason after losing to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will reportedly let his voice be heard despite previous comments suggesting he won't have any impact.
"I was told, though, that Shai was playing a little bit coy there," ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported Monday (three-minute mark). "He will at least remind Sam Presti and the Thunder management just how much he values having Lu Dort as his teammate. Remember, those two are tied for the longest tenures of the guys on the roster right now. And, they spend their summers together playing for Team Canada."

MacMahon's report comes after Gilgeous-Alexander told reporters he will give Presti "zero input" on offseason moves. "I will let Sam Presti, the greatest GM ever, do his job."
Notably, the Thunder have a $17.7 million club option for the 2026-27 campaign on Dort's contract. They will have to make a decision there and perhaps start considering a long-term deal.
After all, Dort is an elite defender who helps take some of the pressure off SGA on that end of the floor while also hitting important three-pointers on the offensive side. And his close relationship with the back-to-back MVP will surely have an impact on the decision-making process as well.
Then there is Chet Holmgren.
The big man is a key part of OKC's core, but there was no shortage of speculation in the immediate aftermath of the loss to the Spurs about his future. He struggled significantly against Victor Wembanyama and managed just four points in Game 7, and some fans may have started to think about Giannis Antetokounmpo in a Thunder uniform.
Still, Gilgeous-Alexander told reporters, "We need Chet. Before Chet was here, we weren't who we are today. … When he's the best version of himself, we're the best version of ourselves."
The guard clearly has an affinity for playing alongside Dort and Holmgren and could let Presti and the rest of the front office know that during the offseason. While Antetokounmpo would be a significant swing, the Thunder may be preparing for their second straight NBA Finals had Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell been healthy against the Spurs.
Perhaps the move is to run it back, especially if that is what Gilgeous-Alexander wants.
