New MLB Trade Rumors on Red Sox Plans for Offense Amid Roman Anthony, Trevor Story Injuries
The Boston Red Sox are reportedly searching for offensive help ahead of the trade deadline.
According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, the Red Sox have already been making calls and "canvassing the league" as they look to bolster their lineup.
Boston is searching for a right-handed bat on the trade market despite not targeting any specific position, per McCaffrey.
The Red Sox are currently dealing with multiple injuries to key contributors in their lineup, as Roman Anthony hasn't played since May 4 due to a finger injury. Trevor Story also underwent sports hernia surgery on Thursday and will miss time as he recovers.
Boston has scored just 187 runs and amassed 36 home runs as a team this season, with both marks representing the lowest in the American League.
The Red Sox have already made notable staff changes after struggling to begin their 2026 campaign. Manager Alex Cora, hitting coach Peter Fatse, bench coach Rámon Vazquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and Major League hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were all fired on April 25.
While Boston still sits at just 22-28, it's worth noting that the team is only two games back from the final AL Wild Card spot.
The 2026 MLB trade deadline is on Aug. 3.
