Brock Purdy's Honest Take on 49ers' Super Bowl Chances in New Video After 2026 NFL Schedule Release
After adding Mike Evans to the offense and Osa Odighizuwa to the defense during the offseason, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is optimistic about the team's Super Bowl chances for the 2026 season.
Speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area's Laura Britt at a charity event (starts at 13:37 mark), Purdy said he believes the 49ers "have what it takes" to win the Super Bowl when they are at full strength:
You guys have seen it in years past. NFC championship, getting to the Super Bowl, being right there. How 2023 ended with that taste in our mouth and not being able to finish. Obviously, we have what it takes to go all the way and win it, that's when we're at full strength and good to go. But even though we are at full strength and full health, that's not guaranteed. That's the cool thing about the guys we have in the locker room and organization: No one just sits there and says, 'Oh, look at our roster and how beautiful it looks.' Guys are ready to go. When it's said and done, we want to come back like all these guys and have rings on our fingers and celebrate those key wins and moments with the history of 49ers. That's what's on our mind, so we got to do it."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The full strength part is always a big question mark in San Francisco. The 49ers have frequently ranked among the most-injured teams in the NFL since Kyle Shanahan's first season as head coach in 2017.
Injury woes in 2020 and 2024 helped knock the 49ers out of playoff contention completely. Last season was remarkable because they were near the top of the league in adjusted games lost due to injuries, yet they finished 12-5 and had a chance at the No. 1 seed in the NFC if they had been able to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 18.
The roster limitations definitely showed up in the divisional round when the 49ers lost 41-6 in a rematch against the Seahawks.
San Francisco could end up starting this season short-handed with George Kittle rehabbing from a torn Achilles suffered in the playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Both Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have left the door open on Kittle potentially playing in Week 1.
Kittle, Purdy, Ricky Pearsall, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner and Mykel Williams all missed at least six games due to injuries last season.
Given that the 49ers won 12 games with all of those roster issues, a year in which they experience positive luck in that regard could easily make them the team to beat in the NFC.
We will find out early in the 2026 season how good the 49ers are, as they take on the Los Angeles Rams in Australia in Week 1 on Sept. 10.
