SGA, Wemby's Final Box Score Stats, Highlights as Thunder Beat Spurs in Game 2
Round 1 of the Western Conference Finals went to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, even if it took a pair of overtimes to do it.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder had their revenge on Wednesday.
Led by the two-time defending MVP's 30 points, nine assists and two blocks, the Thunder beat the Spurs 122-113, evening the series at a game apiece.
Wemby couldn't match his absurd stat line from the first meeting (41 points, 24 rebounds) in Game 2, finishing with 21 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. An impressive effort in its own right, but not quite the generational performance we saw from Wemby in Game 1.
Watching these two playersโand these two teamsโtrade blows has been a real treat. Peak basketball is being played.
Both teams found themselves more shorthanded than usual. De'Aaron Fox was unable to go for the Spurs for a second straight game with an ankle injury, while star rookie Dylan Harper was ruled out for the remainder of the second half with a right leg injury.
But the Thunder lost Jalen Williams to a hamstring issue during the game, a major absence for them down the stretch.
Nonetheless, the Thunder prevailed, showing the resilience and mental toughness you'd expect from the defending champions after Monday's tough loss.
The Spurs are giving them all they can handle. But the Thunder aren't blinking. This series has seven games written all over it, and that's great news for anybody who loves the sport.
