Jalen Hurts' Uncertain Eagles Future Evaluated by NFL Execs amid A.J. Brown Trade Rumors

Julia StumbaughMay 14, 2026

NFL insiders reportedly have mixed opinions on whether Super Bowl LIX MVP Jalen Hurts has a long-term future with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler reported Thursday that some NFL scouts still see Hurts as "a top-12 quarterback in the league" less than two years after he led the Eagles to a Super Bowl.

One AFC executive, however, said he "could see" the Eagles potentially moving on from Hurts next offseason should their offense continue struggling in 2026.

"Polarizing player, and as his running ability starts to decline his value will decline, too," the AFC executive told Fowler. "And [Eagles general manager Howie Roseman] will always be proactive with finding solutions."

One NFC personnel evaluator expressed a more optimistic view of Hurts' future with the Eagles to Fowler: "I think he's going to play well. He's had so many different coordinators over the years that he'll be able to adapt to the changes, and if the running game returns to form, [Hurts] throws it well over the top."

The Eagles are looking to make big changes under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion this offseason after ranking 29th and 23rd in total passing yards over the last two seasons, respectively.

Hurts led the Eagles to an 11-5 record and Wild Card loss last season while recording a career-high 25 touchdown passes but a career-low 7.1 yards per pass to go with just 421 rushing yards, his lowest total since his rookie season.

The Eagles could be hoping a new offense, including the installation of Mannion and the potential promotion of DeVonta Smith to WR1 following the anticipated trade of AJ Brown, will improve those numbers next season.

Fowler previously reported in a recent appearance on ESPN's SportsCenter that Mannion and Hurts "have hit it off."

Tim McManus and Fowler had previously reported that Hurts did "not always embrace" changes put into place by former Eagles OC Kellen Moore, but Fowler indicated things could be different with Mannion.

"Jalen Hurts likes how Sean Mannion structures the offense, how he talks about how they're going to attack things because it's going to look different," Fowler said Sunday. "It's going to be more under center for Jalen Hurts, more play-action than he had done in the past.

"So, our sources have told us that he's at times been reluctant to some of those changes but right he's as open as he's ever been to some of those."

Hurts currently has three years and $154.5 million remaining on his contract, including $22 million in 2027 guarantees that were activated in March. Whether Hurts is able to find more success with Smith and Mannion this season could ultimately impact whether he plays out the rest of that deal in Philadelphia.
