New Eagles Rumors on Jalen Hurts, OC Sean Mannion and Changes to Offense amid A.J. Brown Trade Buzz

Joseph ZuckerMay 10, 2026

The Philadelphia Eagles' new-look offense under coordinator Sean Mannion is getting the seal of approval from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

"I'm hearing the two have hit it off, and Jalen Hurts likes how Sean Mannion structures the offense, how he talks about how they're going to attack things because it's going to look different," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday on SportsCenter. "It's going to be more under center for Jalen Hurts, more play-action than he had done in the past. So, our sources have told us that he's at times been reluctant to some of those changes but right he's as open as he's ever been to some of those."

Fowler also reported Hurts has been working with wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Elijah Moore away from the team facility to help strengthen their on-field connection.

The NFL insider described Smith as the "new No. 1" target in the passing game, which alluded to A.J. Brown's likely exit.

Fowler said the situation with Brown is "sort of understood right now." The Eagles and New England Patriots are basically playing the waiting game because a trade isn't realistic before June 1, after which the financial penalties for Philly are less severe.

For Mannion, having Hurts return to form is his primary objective.

Over the past two seasons, the three-time Pro Bowler has averaged just 197.6 yards per game. He went 20-of-35 for 168 yards and a touchdown in the Wild Card Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers a season ago.

Hurts will probably never be the most prolific passer in the league, but he needs to be more than a game manager. Philadelphia can't expect to have an elite defense on top of a 2,000-yard rusher, which was the formula for winning Super Bowl LIX, every year.

The offense became too predictable when Saquon Barkley was unable to match his 2024 production.

Smith has cracked 1,000 receiving yards in three of the last four years, so he shouldn't have much trouble assuming a larger role. First-round pick Makai Lemon will help to fill the void Brown eventually leaves behind.

But so much of the Eagles' fortunes in 2026 hinge on Hurts improving. Fowler's newest report is an encouraging sign.
