Kevin Huerter, Pistons Agree to New $27M Contract Ahead of NBA Free Agency
The Detroit Pistons reportedly agreed to a new contract with wing Kevin Huerter on Monday.
Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Huerter agreed to a three-year deal worth $27 million to stay with Detroit.
The 27-year-old opened the 2025-26 season on the Chicago Bulls, but was traded to the Pistons as part of a three-team swap that also involved the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 3.
In 25 games following the change of scenery, Huerter averaged 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field.
Although he only connected on 29.4 percent of his three-point attempts with Detroit, he's developed a reputation for his long-range shooting prowess and owns a career mark of 36.8 percent from behind the arc.
As Huerter enters his first full season as a member of the Pistons, it isn't hard to imagine him finding more consistency on triples.
The Atlanta Hawks initially selected him with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft, as he gradually carved out a starting role in his four years with the organization.
Huerter was then traded to the Sacramento Kings in July 2022, serving as a key piece on Kings squads that went 94-70 during his two full seasons on the team before he was dealt to the Bulls in the middle of his 2024-25 campaign.
He's averaged 11.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 27.4 minutes per game throughout his NBA tenure.
Now, Huerter will look to help the Pistons go on a deeper playoff run after the team was eliminated in the second round last season.
