Odell Beckham Jr. Giants Contract Timeline Updated by John Harbaugh After Workout

Adam WellsMay 9, 2026

If the New York Giants are going to sign Odell Beckham Jr., it likely won't happen until after training camp opens later this summer.

Speaking to reporters after rookie minicamp practice on Saturday, Giants head coach John Harbaugh said he has maintained contact with Beckham and the veteran receiver will continue training for a potential comeback.

"Talked to Odell a lot, probably three of four times in the last week, [see] where he's at, where we're at. He's in Arizona right now training and spending time with his son. The goal for right now is for him to train and get as ready as he can be. And then we'll see where we're at at that time."

Harbaugh went on to say that any potential deal would have to be "right for both parties," but he did add that Beckham is still capable of being a valuable contributor for an NFL team:

"This is the conversations that we've had. We have just such an honest conversation about it. It's got to be right for both parties. Odell wants to be the kind of player that can make a difference. I'm pretty sure that he can make a team in the National Football League right now. But can he make a difference and is it something he wants to do and is his body gonna hold up the way he wants it to?"

Beckham last played in the NFL during the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins. He went unsigned last year, then served a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances for a failed test that was administered in 2024.

As Beckham pursues a return to the league, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported on April 20 that the three-time Pro Bowler took a physical and had a workout with the Giants.

The Giants lost Wan'Dale Robinson, who led the team with 1,014 receiving yards last season, in free agency. They did add Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III as free agents and used a third-round draft pick on Malachi Fields to boost their pass-catching depth.

Malik Nabers will be the No. 1 option, though he is currently rehabbing a torn ACL and meniscus that ended his sophomore season in Week 4. The expectation is he will be cleared by the start of training camp.

New York's interest in Beckham could mark a reunion with the organization that originally drafted him. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 draft by the Giants, had more than 1,000 yards in four of his five years with the club before being traded to the Cleveland Browns in March 2019.

Beckham also has experience playing with Harbaugh from his lone season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. He caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.

The NFL hasn't officially announced report dates for training camp, but typically all 32 teams will open camp in late July.
