New Yankees Rumors on Spencer Jones, Roster After Jasson Dominguez Injury

One of the New York Yankees' top prospects could be making his MLB debut in the wake of Jasson Domínguez's injured list designation.

The Yankees are calling up outfield prospect Spencer Jones, the New York Post's Jon Heyman reported Thursday.

The news came shortly after Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Domínguez would require "a few weeks" on IL due to a left shoulder injury.

Jones, a 2022 first-round pick, is ranked as the Yankees' No. 6 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Domínguez suffered his injury after crashing into the left-field fence while making a catch in Thursday's first inning against the Texas Rangers.

Boone said after the Yankees' 9-2 win that Domínguez had suffered a "low-grade left AC sprain in his left shoulder," per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Domínguez was called up on April 27 in place of Giancarlo Stanton, who has been sidelined with a right calf strain.

He had made seven appearances as a designated hitter and two in the outfield prior to his early departure from Thursday's game.

Boone moved Cody Bellinger to left field, while sliding Amed Rosario from third base to right field and keeping Trent Grisham at center following Domínguez's exit.

Domínguez's injury and Stanton's ongoing IL stint could now open up a spot for Jones, who currently leads all minor-leaguers with 41 RBI in 33 games.

Jones has been playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he has slashed .258/.366/.592 with 11 home runs and 18 walks in 33 games this season.

Boone said after Thursday's game he had gotten a chance to see some of Jones' Triple-A at-bats and that he'd been encouraged by the outfielder's performance over the last month.

"I feel like the last three, four weeks, been having a lot of consistent at-bats, the power's been there, less swing and miss, which is some of the things we were seeing a little in Spring Training," Boone said Thursday.

Boone continued, "He's put himself in the mix... The signs have been encouraging."

The Yankees are leading the AL East with a 26-12 record so far this season. Jones could make his debut as soon as Friday should Boone slot him into the lineup for the first game of his club's weekend road series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
