CJ McCollum, Hawks Reportedly Agree to $21M Contract Extension, Full Details, Updated NBA Salary Cap
After spending the second half of the 2025-26 season with the Atlanta Hawks, CJ McCollum is reportedly sticking around.
Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the veteran guard agreed to a one-year, $21 million contract extension with the Hawks. That means he will avoid free agency.
According to Spotrac, the Hawks have $252.4 million in total cap allocations as of Sunday.
McCollum joined the Hawks in January after being traded from the Washington Wizards as part of the deal for Trae Young. He played well in 41 regular-season games in Atlanta, putting up 18.7 points and 4.1 assists per game.
He helped the Hawks make a late-season run to get into the playoffs, where they took the New York Knicks to six games. McCollum had some vintage moments in that series, like a 32-point performance in Game 2.
Since spending the first nine years of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, McCollum has bounced around a bit, playing for the New Orleans Pelicans for three and a half seasons and staying in Washington for less than half of a season.
He'll look to stay rooted in Atlanta for a bit as the Hawks continue their quest to become a perennial playoff contender.
