Updated 2026 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Bracket, Schedule and Top Highlights from May 5

The second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs featured just one matchup on Tuesday, as the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild faced off in Game 2 of their series.

In the end, the Avalanche emerged with a 5-2 victory and took a 2-0 series lead.

Tuesday Highlights

Avalanche 5, Wild 2

Colorado took an early 1-0 lead with a backhand shot by Martin Necas in the first period, although Minnesota didn't waste time before responding.

Six seconds later, Kirill Kaprizov scored off assists from Ryan Hartman and Mats Zuccarello to tie the game at 1-1.

The Avalanche jumped in front once again before the opening period came to a close, as Gabriel Landeskog found the back of the net following a slick feed from Nathan MacKinnon.

Colorado eventually extended its lead to 3-1 with a goal from Nicolas Roy early in the second period.

While Minnesota was scoreless in the second, MacKinnon recorded his first goal of the night to give the Avalanche a commanding 4-1 lead early in the third period.

Although the Wild quickly fired back with Marcus Johansson's slap shot that cut the deficit to 4-2, they couldn't pull any closer throughout the remainder of the game.

Colorado put the finishing touches on the win with a goal from Valeri Nichushkin just before the third period came to a close.

Minnesota ended the game with just two goals despite attempting 31 shots as a team.
