Sabrina Ionescu Injured, Latest on Liberty Star's Ankle After Exiting WNBA Preseason Game vs. Sun
The New York Liberty's season hasn't begun yet, but they've already been dealt some bad injury luck.
Star guard Sabrina Ionescu exited Sunday's preseason contest against the Connecticut Sun with a left ankle injury in the third quarter. Liberty coach Chris DeMarco said after the game that Ionescu rolled her ankle and will have an MRI on Monday.
"[Things are] positive right now," DeMarco told reporters. "We're just going to do the test tomorrow and that's the only update I have."
Ionescu had her rookie season ended prematurely because of a left ankle injury, and the Liberty are obviously hoping things won't be that severe this time around.
Ionescu played 16 minutes in the preseason game, scoring six points.
The Liberty begin their season on Friday, and Ionescu potentially being out would be a major blow. The four-time All-Star is coming off a season in which she recorded 18.2 points, 5.7 assists and 4.9 boards while helping lead New York to the No. 2 overall seed.
