Dusty May Reveals Huge Expected Cost of Michigan's CBB Roster After Winning NCAA Title
Michigan head coach Dusty May confirmed Wednesday that the Wolverines' 2026-27 roster is expected to exceed the $10 million it allocated for its title-winning team this past season.
"We anticipate it to be much greater next year because of the job our players did this past season," May told Front Office Sport's Amanda Christovich. "We're very grateful, myself as a coach, our assistant coaches and players, for all of those that laid the foundation for the sport to be in the place it is now. And our job is to leave it in a better place than we found it."

May said he's hoping the roster won't double in cost. He did note that NIL opportunities have only increased, however.
"Our guys have been able to generate a lot of revenue outside of what they were contracted for throughout the season, postseason," May added. "The autograph signings, the restaurants, the hotels that are basically hiring our guys like they formerly did coaches. So, yeah, that number has actually increased."
Michigan has already added Tennessee transfer J.P. Estrella, LSU transfer Jalen Reed and Cincinnati transfer Moustapha Thiam, alongside the No. 4 recruiting class, per 247Sports' Composite Rankings. So the Wolverines are very much expected to remain a force, however expensive that might be.
