Breaking Down the Sneaker Sales Behind Stephen Curry's $1.7M Charity Auction
More than 70 pairs of shoes worn by Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry during the 2025-26 season sold for a total of $1.7 million in a Sotheby's auction that concluded this week.
Per Sotheby's, every lot that was available ended up being sold, and more than 400 bidders from nearly 30 different countries participated.
Sotheby's termed the auction "The Stephen Curry Collection: My Sneaker Free Agency" due to the fact that Curry wore shoes from numerous companies this season after his longtime shoe deal with Under Armour came to an end in November.

Curry provided a statement to Sotheby's regarding the auction, saying, "This whole journey started as a way to have some fun with the game and tell stories through what I was wearing every night, but it turned into something much bigger than I ever expected. Seeing the response from fans and collectors around the world, and knowing that every pair is now going on to have a life beyond me, is really special. What means the most is that this moment is creating real impact off the court through Eat. Learn. Play., and that's always been the goal."
Sotheby's head of modern collectibles Brahm Wachter also commented on the auction, saying, "It has been a privilege for Sotheby's to help channel the excitement surrounding this unprecedented chapter in Stephen's career into meaningful proceeds and awareness for a cause that is making a tangible impact in children's lives."
Proceeds from the auction are being provided to the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Curry and his wife, Ayesha Curry, in 2019.
Of all the shoes sold at auction, the 2010 Nike Hyperdunk PEs worn by Curry during warmups prior to the Warriors' Christmas Day game against the Dallas Mavericks paced the field at a sale price of $121,600.
Additionally, the Nike Kobe 6 Protro "Mambacita Sweet 16" shoes worn by Curry on the first night of his sneaker free agency went for $76,800, and four other pairs sold for $70,400 apiece.
Curry, 38, recently completed his 17th NBA season, and he continued to deliver elite production, averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, 4.4 three-pointers made and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Injuries limited Curry to 43 games, and the Warriors were knocked out in the postseason play-in tournament, but he is still among the best players in the league when healthy, and figures to be highly sought after by shoe companies this coming offseason.
