5-Star Guard Dylan Mingo Reveals Commitment After Decommitting from UNC After Michael Malone Hire

After decommitting from North Carolina following Hubert Davis' firing, Dylan Mingo has found his new home.

ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported Monday that Mingo will play college basketball at Baylor alongside his brother, Kayden, who previously committed to the Bears after transferring from Penn State.

Dylan Mingo is a 5-star prospect and the No. 6 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

Kayden Mingo was also seen as a highly regarded recruit as a 4-star prospect in the 2025 class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

He impressed in his first collegiate season at Penn State and averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 24.4 percent from deep.

Now the brothers will be reunited at Baylor, and Dylan Mingo told ESPN's Paul Biancardi, "It is a blessing to play with him again."

Dylan Mingo is talented enough to step right in and become a key contributor in the Baylor attack as soon as his first season.

His handle immediately stands out, and he uses it to get out in transition, beat defenders off the dribble in half-court sets and either create open looks for himself or his teammates when opponents collapse on his penetration. Throw in his rebounding skills, and he can impact the game in a number of ways.

Mingo can also play impressive defense and is versatile enough to guard multiple positions.

Expectations are always high surrounding the Baylor program. After all, it won the national championship in 2021 and then returned to the NCAA tournament the following four seasons.

However, it missed the Big Dance entirely with a 17-17 record last season. It will surely be looking to turn things around and return to the March stage, and landing an impact player like Mingo is a significant step in the right direction.
