New Warriors Rumors Provide Latest Update on Draymond Green Contract, Roster amid Steve Kerr Buzz
After missing the playoffs, the Golden State Warriors could be heading towards an offseason of major changes.
NBA insiders Mark Stein and Jake Fischer reported Sunday that "there is a growing belief that the roster overhaul around (Stephen) Curry could prove to be more drastic if (Steve) Kerr is no longer the coach."
Stein and Fischer noted that veteran Draymond Green recently said on his podcast that he isn't expecting Kerr to return to Golden State next season, adding that he isn't sure if the team wants him to.
As for Green, Stein and Fischer reported that it is "believed" the Warriors will give him the option to decline his $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 campaign and instead sign a longer-term deal at a cheaper annual salary.
The 36-year-old Green is coming off a decent season in which he put up 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. Still, he has noticeably lost a step or two in recent years and perhaps has become a bit overpaid on his current deal.
Taking a cheaper deal would give Golden State a bit more flexibility as it attempts to stay competitive in Curry's final years.
