Mat Ishbia Backs Devin Booker, Says Suns vs. Thunder G2 Officiating Was 'Not a Good Look' for NBA
Phoenix Suns governor Mat Ishbia showed support for star guard Devin Booker, who called out the officiating in Wednesday night's Game 2 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Ishbia posted a lengthy tweet declaring that he's "100% behind Devin Booker here," and Wednesday night's game was "not a good look for our league."
Booker didn't hold back his criticisms of the referees following Wednesday night's 120-107 loss. He particularly took issue with a technical foul he received in the third quarter that appeared to be influenced by Thunder veteran guard Alex Caruso.
"It's definitely something that has to be looked into. I heard Caruso tell them to call the tech, and he ended up doing it," Booker told reporters. "... It's bad for the sport, bad for the integrity of the sport. People are going to start viewing this as the WWE if they're not held responsible."
Booker had 22 points and a game-high five turnovers in the loss, which put Phoenix into a 0-2 series hole. The game was a physical battle that saw the Thunder shoot 25 free throws and the Suns get 22 attempts from the charity stripe.
"Nobody who loves this game enjoyed watching that last night," Ishbia added. "They want to see the players compete at the highest level. The league needs [to] be far more aggressive about this kind of thing. All players and all fans deserve it."
The Suns will try to take back some of the momentum from the Thunder when the series heads to Phoenix for Game 3 on Saturday afternoon.
