Scoot Henderson Drops Epic Quote After 31-Point Game Powers Blazers to Win vs. Spurs in Game 2
Scoot Henderson was fantastic in the Portland Trail Blazers' 106-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of their first-round matchup, putting up 31 points in the series-evening result.
And the young guard said he knew he was going to have a big night before he even arrived at the arena:
"Same mindset every game," he added. "Go out and kill whoever's in front of me."
Henderson, 22, came into the NBA with major expectations after being the No. 3 pick in the 2023 draft, and it's fair to say he hasn't quite lived up to them quite yet, averaging 13.5 points and five assists in his three-year career.
Hardly poor numbers, of course, but not quite "franchise cornerstone" level.
But he's certainly put his best foot forward in these playoffs. In Game 1, he scored 18 points and added three assists. On Tuesday, he was the best player on the court (at least once Victor Wembanyama was forced to leave the game in the second quarter with a concussion).
"I'm always confident, so it's just up to the work I put in," Henderson said after Game 2. "If you don't put the work in, there's no way you can be confident. So yeah, that's me."
That impressed everybody, including his head coach.
"I don't know if I have the words," Tiago Splitter told reporters. "Best game for him this season, maybe his career. He carried us."
Henderson's career high in points came last season (39 against the Brooklyn Nets in Jan. 2025). But it didn't come in the playoffs. It didn't even a series. It didn't completely change the potential outlook of a first-round matchup.
