Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson Compared by NFL Execs Amid Giants, Draft Rumors

Zach BacharApr 21, 2026

Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate and Arizona State receiver Jordyn Tyson have been compared around the league ahead of the 2026 NFL draft.

"With Tyson you have balance, body control, he breaks tackles, can make the spectacular play," an AFC general manager told Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer. "Tate's more the smooth, athletic, long route runner."

Tyson also drew comparisons to Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson.

"He's Justin Jefferson Lite," an assistant general manager told Breer. "He's just not as good after the catch."

Breer noted that "most teams" he talked to gave Tate the edge over Tyson since there's "a lot less risk" involved with selecting him, while the New York Giants are "in play" to draft one of them with the No. 5 overall pick.

Tyson suffered a a torn ACL, MCL and PCL during his freshman season at Colorado in 2022 and missed almost all of his 2023 campaign as a result.

In 2024, he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns while suiting up in 14 games with Arizona State.

Hamstring issues surfaced for Tyson last season, but he still caught 61 passes for 711 yards and eight scores in nine games.

As for Tate, he amassed 875 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 17.2 yards per reception with the Buckeyes in 2025.

Tyson and Tate were listed as the No. 1 and No. 2 wide receivers in the upcoming draft class on the latest big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department, respectively.

The first round of the 2026 draft begins on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
