UConn's Solo Ball to Miss Entire 2026-27 CBB Season After Surgery, Latest Injury Update on SG

The UConn men's basketball team will be without one of its primary contributors for the entire 2026-27 campaign.

The Huskies announced Monday that Solo Ball will miss the entire season due to a wrist injury that will require surgery. The plan is for him to take a medical redshirt and return to the program for the 2027-28 season.

"Solo is a true Husky and a champion who would do anything to be out on the court," head coach Dan Hurley said in the announcement. "This guy has shown throughout his career what a warrior he is. Solo is going to use the season to get his wrist fully healthy and then come back next year as one of the best guards in America while cementing his legacy as an all-time great at UConn."

Ball arrived at UConn as a 4-star prospect and the No. 45 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

He was largely a secondary contributor during his first season for a strong UConn team that won the national championship and then took on a much larger role as a sophomore while averaging 14.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

That was good enough to be recognized as a member of the All-Big East Second Team, which put him under an even larger spotlight heading into his junior campaign in 2025-26. 

Ball responded to that spotlight by averaging 12.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, which once again landed him on the All-Big East Second Team. However, the Huskies found more success in the postseason and reached the national championship game before they lost to Michigan.

The guard scored in double figures in the Sweet 16 win over Michigan State, Elite Eight win over Duke, Final Four win over Illinois and loss to Michigan in the title game while connecting on nine three-pointers on the run through the tournament.

He is 10th in UConn history with 199 career three-pointers and will look to climb those rankings and add another national championship to his resume when he returns for the 2027-28 campaign.

While his eventual return will be a significant boost, the Huskies will need to replace his production during the upcoming season.

They could be positioned to do just that, though, with a strong offseason that has included transfer portal additions in Najai Hines from Seton Hall and Nikolas Khamenia from Duke. They are also getting Braylon Mullins and Silas Demary Jr. back from last season's team.
