Ty Simpson, Carson Beck and Every QB's Landing Spot in New 7-Round NFL Mock Draft from Chad Reuter
As the final build for the 2026 NFL draft approaches, NFL.com's Chad Reuter dropped his full seven-round mock on Friday.
One of the biggest storylines in this draft is what happens with the quarterbacks after Fernando Mendoza presumably goes No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Reuter's mock features a first-round stunner, with Ty Simpson going No. 16 overall to the New York Jets.

Here is where every quarterback comes off the board in Reuter's projection:
- Fernando Mendoza: No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders
- Ty Simpson: No. 16 overall to the New York Jets
- Carson Beck: Third round (No. 65) to the Arizona Cardinals
- Garrett Nussmeier: Third round (No. 76) to the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Drew Allar: Fourth round (No. 128) to the Detroit Lions
- Behren Morton: Fifth round (No. 157) to the Los Angeles Rams
- Taylen Green: Fifth round (No. 173) to the Baltimore Ravens
- Cole Payton: Fifth round (No. 178) to the Philadelphia Eagles
- Cade Klubnik: Sixth round (No. 192) to the New York Giants
- Sawyer Robertson: Sixth round (No. 198) to the New England Patriots
- Joey Aguilar: Seventh round (No. 236) to the Green Bay Packers
The idea of Simpson to the Jets with their second pick of round one has been floated at times throughout the pre-draft process. It hasn't really seemed to pick up steam, but this week did bring with it one interesting nugget to suggest it could at least be in play.
ESPN's Rich Cimini reported on Sunday that Jets officials "came away impressed with him as a person and his football character" after hosting Simpson for dinner and a private workout.
Even if the Jets decide they like Simpson, they wouldn't necessarily have to reach for him at No. 16 to get him.
B/R's NFL scouting department projected Simpson to be selected by the Arizona Cardinals with their first pick of the second round at No. 34 in its most recent mock.
The Jets own the pick right before Arizona, so there is a scenario in which they could draft him if they wanted to.
Since the Jets get Simpson in Reuter's scenario, the Cardinals end up with Carson Beck at the top of the third round. Their quarterback depth chart right now features Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew II and Kedon Slovis.
Beck could potentially get a start for the Cardinals as a rookie given the state of their roster if he were to end up with them.
After Simpson, perhaps the most intriguing quarterback-team pairing in Reuter's mock is Garrett Nussmeier to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers' offseason moves seem to indicate they anticipate Aaron Rodgers returning, but that hasn't yet been confirmed, though a decision could come prior to the draft.
Nussmeier had a disappointing 2025 due in part to injuries, but he entered the season in contention with Mendoza as the top quarterback prospect in college football.
It's not unreasonable to think Nussmeier can develop into a quality starter given his physical tools. He could be the most tantalizing potential Day 2 pick in the draft, especially if he ends up on a team like the Steelers that is desperately looking for a long-term answer at the quarterback position.
Sticking in the AFC North, even though there's no quarterback competition for the Baltimore Ravens because of Lamar Jackson, Reuter's projection of Taylen Green as a fifth-round pick is compelling.
Green's scouting report from B/R's Dame Parson highlights his "elite height and frame," high-end arm talent and being "one of the most dangerous running quarterbacks in college football" last season.
A lot of his profile reads like Anthony Richardson-lite. Even though Richardson hasn't worked out in the NFL thus far, his traits were good enough to make him the No. 4 pick in the draft.
Green potentially being a Day 3 pick takes a lot of pressure off him to develop in a situation with arguably the best running quarterback in NFL history. He may not see the field for a long time, but the upside is worth it for a team in need of a backup.
