Tyrese Maxey was under the national spotlight Wednesday as his Philadelphia 76ers took on the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament.

And he chose that national spotlight to break out his first signature shoe.

The 76ers star debuted the New Balance Maxey v1 as he took the court:

"I wanted my shoe to have an iconic look that you don't need to see the 'N' to know it's a New Balance shoe," Maxey said in a press release on Thursday. "To me, the 9060 is a classic NB silhouette, so I pulled a lot of inspiration from that to bring lifestyle to the basketball court. I worked really closely with the New Balance product team to make sure the shoe looks good and feels good on and off the court. I'm really excited for people to test it out!"

Tres Dean of GQ noted Maxey is just the second player with his own signature line through New Balance. While Jamal Murray, Cameron Brink and Zach LaVine are all signed to the company, Kawhi Leonard was the only one with a signature line until this development.

"A special moment in my life, honestly," Maxey told Dean when asked what was his reaction to learning he would have a signature shoe. "I was surprised but felt pretty blessed. The brand has done wonders for my family, my foundation, my life in general. I felt blessed, man. I went home and shed a few tears.

"I thought about growing up in Dallas and watching my favorite players like Kyrie and then wearing their signature shoes—you do that and just feel like you're a part of their journey. So I hope I can give that same feeling back to some kids now."

The shoes arrive after a dominant season for two-time All-Star.

He averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from deep. He carried Philadelphia for extended stretches, especially with Joel Embiid and Paul George each missing significant time during the campaign.

At just 25 years old, he is also a franchise cornerstone for the 76ers and figures to lead the way into the future.

And he will have a signature shoe as he does so.
