'I Love My Money,' Anthony Davis Sounds Off on Wizards Future, Contract Ahead of 2026 NBA Offseason
Star big man Anthony Davis didn't play a game for the Washington Wizards after being acquired from the Dallas Mavericks at this season's trade deadline, but it sounds like he's in a rush to leave his new franchise.
When asked if he's committed to playing in Washington next season, Davis told The Athletic's David Aldridge with a smile, "I'm under contract. I love my money." He added that he wants to speak with the Wizards' front office "sooner rather than later" regarding its plan to raise the team to contender status.
The 2026-27 season is the final guaranteed year of Davis' current contract, and he will count for a $58.5 million cap hit. He has a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.

Luka: Rehab 'Frustrating'
While the Wizards finished with the worst record in the NBA at 17-65, there's some optimism that the future is bright. In addition to trading for Davis, Washington also acquired star point guard Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks this season. A healthy year from the two of them could elevate the Wizards from the league's basement and help them compete for a playoff spot next year.
Davis added that he's been impressed with Washington's young core, and he named guards Kyshawn George and Bub Carrington as players he's enjoyed watching.
Still, the Wizards could have some work to do to convince Davis to stick around long-term, and it remains to be seen if the 33-year-old will be able to help lead the franchise back to contention.
